Motivation:The Peace Bureau organized peace conferences, and it collected and published peace literature. It was the heart of the European peace movement, and it co-ordinated the activities of the various national and non-governmental peace organizations. Pratt was nominated for his effort to promote peace and arbitration. He contributed to the founding of the Permanent International Peace Bureau in 1891 and he was a member of its commission (until 1904). Pratt founded and presided over the International Arbitration and Peace Association.
