Rosika Schwimmer died August 3, 1948. She had fled Hungary in 1920, and she remained stateless to the end of her life because the US Supreme Court decided against her application for citizen (she did not wish to bear arms to defend the US Constitution). Scwhimmer was the first woman appointed as minister to another country in 1918 (Kollontay was the first female ambassador). |
